2024 Post Race Update:
Hello fire community and runners! It’s been a very busy fire season so we would like to open with apologies that this was not updated in a more punctual manner. On behalf of the Tahoe Hotshots and the organizers of the Hotshot Half Marathon, we would like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated or donated to the Hotshot Half. The weather was ideal, the results prove all participants are putting in the winter work, the banana peoples emotional/morale/vocal support was second to none (Mile 2.5/12). We had 322 registered runners and with your donations and after expenses, we were able to raise over $18,000 for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. Your dedication, perseverance and commitment to this great cause is truly inspiring, and as this foundation hits very close to home for us; we are eternally grateful!
This race started in 2015 to raise money and awareness for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. As many might notice the initials MK on our logo, we lost a crewmember and friend in 2013. Mike Kelly was a Tahoe Hotshot and an avid runner. The Wildland Fighter Foundation stepped in and provided critical support during this tragic time. We began this fundraiser in his memory to raise money for the very foundation that came through for him and his family while also doing something he loved…RUNNING! Unfortunately, since then, the Wildland Firefighting Community has lost several brothers and sisters both on and off duty as well as witnessed several life changing injuries on the line. Your contributions will be a huge support both financially and emotionally to firefighters and their families with unforeseen costs during these tragic circumstances.
The Hotshot Half Marathon (or a little more…14.5) is challenging; not only physically, but mentally. The trail in which your ran is the training grounds for the Tahoe Hotshots to prepare them for the wildland fire season. Once again, we thank you for showing up, having grit, and supporting us! We appreciate each, and every one of you and cannot wait to see you again next year! We would also like to recognize all our sponsors and volunteers! Without them, this race would not be possible. This race is hosted by the Tahoe Hotshot Crew and many local volunteers who step up in this community. As we begin the new year, we urge everyone to stay vigilant and aware in their endeavors. Also, it’s never too early to begin preparation for the 2025 Hotshot Half! We hope to see all the old faces next April as well as some new competitors. Please bear with us and continue your support; we will do our best to keep providing you with an awesome event!
We will have more pictures continuing to be uploaded so keep checking back!
